WFP school feeding program to be extended in North Darfur

The department of nutrition of the Ministry of Education of North Darfur State has agreed to allow the World Food Programme to extend the school feeding program to additional pupils.

National School Lunch Program increases educational achievement

A new article from the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management is the first to evaluate the long-term health and educational effects of participation in the National School Lunch Program. The study finds that the program leads to a significant increase in educational opportunity and attainment, but an insignificant increase in health levels from childhood to adulthood.

Obama's Feed the Future Should Include Food for Education in Yemen.

President Obama has unveiled the  «Feed the Future» program to attack the global hunger and poverty crisis. For this initiative to succeed, it has to supply children with the foundation for their future — food and education.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), is to be expanded to cover 1,040,000 pupils by the end of the year. The programme currently covers 656,624 pupils.

School feeding programmes provided the opportunity to benefit local farmers and producers by generating a stable, structured and predictable demand for their products, thereby building the market and the enabling systems around it.

Feeding America Applauds Passage of Child Nutrition Reauthorization Legislation by Senate Agriculture Committee and Urges Full Senate Action

Feeding America and its network of more than 200 food banks across the country applaud today's approval of a child nutrition reauthorization bill by the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry as a step forward in achieving an end to childhood hunger by 2015. The Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill reported by the Committee has the potential to increase access to nutritious food for children during the school day, after school, in the summer, over weekends and extended school holidays.

WFP And Russia Sign Deals To Defeat Hunger

WFP has signed two agreements with the Russian government to strengthen their existing partnership over the next three years in the battle against global hunger. Russia will also assist with providing school meals to children in Armenia.

USDA'S MCGOVERN-DOLE INTERNATIONAL FOOD FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM EXPECTED TO FEED 5 MILLION CHILDREN THIS YEAR

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that USDA will donate more than 100,000 tons of U.S. agricultural commodities valued at nearly $170 million (including freight costs and technical assistance) in fiscal year 2010 under the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition (McGovern-Dole) Program.
